主人公は、柔道の達人「猪熊慈悟郎」（いのくまじごろう）を祖父に持つ
「猪熊柔」（いのくまやわら）という女子高生。
幼少期から厳しい稽古を受けて育った猪熊柔は、
その天才的な柔道の素質を隠しながら普通の女子高生として過ごしていました。
しかし、あるとき、猪熊柔が街でひったくり犯を投げ飛ばしたシーンを、
スポーツ記者「松田優作」（まつだゆうさく）が偶然目撃。
その出会いをきっかけに、改めて柔道と向き合うことに。
様々な選手との戦いや友情を通じて成長し、猪熊柔が柔道家として金メダルを目指していくストーリー。

The protagonist is a high school girl named Yawara Inokuma. Her grandfather, Jigorou Inokuma, is a judo master.
Having undergone rigorous training from a young age, Yawara has been hiding her exceptional judo talents while living her life as an ordinary high school girl.
One day, however, a sportswriter named Yusaku Matsuda happens to witness Yawara performing a takedown of a purse-snatcher on the street.
This encounter leads Yawara to take up judo once again.
The story follows Yawara Inokuma’s life as she grows through a series of struggles and friendships with various athletes in her quest to win a gold medal as a judo practitioner.
